Fri 4th April 2025 Set off for home -stopped at a local Garden Centre for a coffee on the way. The poshest Garden Centre Coffee Shop we've ever been to. Very nice coffee and Danish (should have been for the price!). Then bombed it back along the A1(M) and M1 back home.

Return Leg

Thu 3rd April 2025 Set off for our last destination on this trip - a small site just outside of Harrogate. We decided to stop of in Hexham for a coffee on the way. It was a lovely sunny day and we had a bit of a mooch around the town (very pleasant). We struggled to find a place to park in the main car park so parked at Lidl just around the corner. After that we set off for Masham to visit the Black Sheep Brewery as Ed had a gift voucher that could only be spent in the on-site shop. We were only there for about 20 mins but the brewery and bar look great and would be worth a return visit.   Following this we carried on to out site which was just outside of Harrogate. Unfortunately the Sat-Nav took us the most direct route which was down a load of windy country lanes which tested out Ed's newly learned Motorhome driving skills.  Eventually we arrived at the site which was a working dairy farm. It was okay but we probably wouldn't stay there again... We visited a pub for tea...

Vindolanda

Easy walk today if a bit chillier than yesterday. Over the fields and along a couple of quiet roads to the world heritage site Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum.  The whole place was much better than we expected despite the good reviews. Interesting museum perused at our leisure with no children hurrying us along 😂. The excavated site is huge & well presented.  Plus! A fab cafe whose hot pies were very much appreciated after our walk.  Note to ourselves to take binoculars out! Think we spotted a curlew.

Hadrian's Wall

Mon 31st March Arrived at Hadrian's Wall campsite.  This is a lovely neat and tidy site with space for around 20 motorhomes/caravans along with a few glamping pods.   The nearest pub (The Milecastle Inn) is about a mile away along the (very straight) military road or via a safer route across country with an easy going footpath. So we ventured out and had a pint.  Tue 1st April   We walked a section of Hadrian's Wall... Got up early (for us) and managed to get to the end of the lane to get the 10:08 bus going east. This bus runs from Halwhistle to Hexham and runs every 2 hours.   We got off at Homestead which is a ruined Roman Fort and a National Trust and English Heritage site. From there we walked back towards the campsite along the Hadrian's Wall path. This runs next to the wall along an escarpent. We passed a number of Milecastles and Turrets on the way as well as the Sycamore Gap (with the stump!).  We broke off from ...
